Info

We are delighted to announce that the National Portrait Gallery has been shortlisted for the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2024.

The Gallery is one of five projects in the running for the world's largest museum prize. It comes as new figures reveal that the NPG welcomed a record 1.4m visitors in the six months since it reopened to the public in June.

The 31% overall increase on pre-closure figures included a 66% increase in first-time visitors, a 61% increase in families, and an amazing 357% increase in visitors with disabilities.

We were part of the design team for the NPG's biggest redevelopment since it first opened its doors to the public in 1896. We were tasked with integrating state-of-the-art engineering systems as well as safely re-introducing daylight into the galleries through windows which had been blocked up for nearly 100 years. Read more about the project here.

The winner of this year's Museum of the Year will be announced at a ceremony at London's National Gallery in July. Congratulations to everyone involved in the project.
